Jim Rodgers

Jim Rodgers’ paintings range from luscious pastoral scenes to quiet still-life subjects reflect a richness in tone and color that comes from over thirty years of professional study and travel in the United States and abroad.

Rodgers, a native of New Jersey, began his early training at the Arts Students League in New York, which enabled him to study with such master teachers as Frank Mason, Gregg Kreutz and Richard Pionk. Later on in his training, he was introduced to Art Maynard of the Ridgewood Art Institute of New Jersey where he studied landscape and portraiture. Primarily, his focus has been on traditional and classical attitudes in rendering landscapes, still-life, florals and genre scenes.

Classic training has been augmented by wanderlust as Jim traveled throughout the United States working as an artist. At times, he lived in New Orleans, Florida, Connecticut, Nevada and Ohio. Today he currently resides in Lancaster, Pennsylvania capturing the quiet sylvan landscapes of the farm country on canvas.

Jim’s intention is to capture the special mood of a scene, particularly a landscape, and help the viewer feel the subject as he experienced it “plein air”. He is especially fond of capturing scenes in late afternoon and early evening. Whether the work evokes joy, rapture or quiet contemplation, Jim’s pieces all stand out for their rich tones and exquisite classical renderings.

Jim Rodgers has been able to broaden the scope of his landscape studies by making painting trips abroad to venues in Provence, France; Tuscany, Italy; England and Ireland.
