ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Delphin Enjolras was born in Courcouron, Ardeche, France on May 13, 1857. He was an academic painter of portraits, nudes and interiors. He painted mostly using watercolors and pastels but also painted with oils. He is best known for his intimate portraits of young women performing mundane activities such as reading or sewing, often illuminated by lamplight.

Enjolras studied at the Ecole de Dessin de la Ville de Paris under the watercolorist, Gasson Gerard. He also studied at the Academie des Beaux-Arts de Paris under the famed master teachers and artists, Jean-Leon Gerome and Pascal Dagnan-Bouveret. He began to exhibit quite successfully from 1890 and throughout his career at The Paris Salon, joining the Societe des Artistes Francais in 1901.

Delphin Enjolras died in 1945.

Today, his works can be found in important private and public collections, including at The Musee du Pay in Le Puy-en-Velay and at The Musee d’Avignon.
