LOUIS CLESSE (BELGIAN, 1889-1961)

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Louis Clesse was born in Ixelles, Belgium in 1889. He was a painter of landscapes, harbor scenes, coast and towns such as Bruges. He also was known to paint portraits and still life paintings. He worked at the studio of P.Hermanus where he honed his craft.

In the summer, when he was not working at the studio, he would paint at the town of Auderghem and beginning in 1932, he traveled frequently to Oudenburg, where he created coastline, harbor and village scenes. Clesse was a founding member of the art group,"L'Association des Artistes Professionnels de Belgique" as well as being a member of the "Cercle d'Art d'Ixelles".

He died in 1961 in Ixelles.

Today, his paintings can be found in private and public collections, including in museums in Brussels, Schaerbeck, Ixelles, Ostend and Charleroi.
