ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Marie-Antoinette Marcotte was born in Troyes, France on May 31, 1869. She was a painter of gardens, landscapes, flowers and genre scenes. When she was very young, she moved with her parents to Brussels, Belgium. In 1891, she started to study at the Brussels Academy of Fine Arts under the tutelage of the master teacher and artist, J. Portaels. She also studied with the famed Jules Lefebvre in Paris.
She exhibited quite successfully in venues in Brussels, Berlin, Munich and St Petersburg. She also exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Francais in Paris, where in 1905, she received an honorable mention. In 1923, she was awarded the coveted Sarah Bernhardt award in Paris.
Marie-Antoinette Marcotte died in Paris in 1929.

Today, her paintings can be found in private and public collections, including in museums in Brussels, Courtrai, Antwerp and Ghent.
