ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Born in Florence, Alabama, Mattie Dubé was one of the American women who traveled to Paris at the turn of the century to study at French academies. Despite restrictions against women students, such as higher tuitions and rules against drawing nude models, Dubé was successful at establishing her career both in France at the Salons, and in America such as exhibitions of her work at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair.
