ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Jacques Madyol was born in Ixelles, Belgium in 1874. He was a painter of genre scenes and portraits. He was also a designer. He studied at the Brussels Academy of Fine Arts from 1893 to1897.

He became highly sought after as a portrait painter and was commissioned to paint important persons, including King Albert Ier (in 1927) of Belgium as well as Queen Elizabeth of Belgium. Madyol also painted landscapes and portraits in Brazil. He traveled and painted landscapes with figures while in Nice, in the south of France. He was the co-founder of art group, “Cercle Le Labeur."

Madyol exhibited quite successfully at important art venues, including at the “L’Exposition Treinnale d’Anvers”(1901), in Brussels (1907) and at the Worlds Fair and the International Fair de Bruxelles(1910). In 1931, he exhibited with Le Cercle Artistique et Literaire de Bruxelles.
He died in Ixelles in 1950.

Today, Jacques Madyol’s works can be found in private and public collections including at the Musee de l’Armee in Brussels where one can see some of his portraiture work including the portraits of King Albert Ier and Queen Elizabeth.
